# Agent Identity

## Overview

Browserbase Identity helps your agents access sites as legitimate, authorized participants by providing them with a verifiable identity trusted by websites along with authentication features and configurable web access mechanisms such as proxies or CAPTCHA solving.

## Access

Use these Identity features to help your agents access protected sites.

## Authentication

Manage credentials and interactive sign-in flows for your browser sessions.

## Verified

Verified sessions use a purpose-built Chromium browser with real browser fingerprints that Browserbase's bot protection partners recognize. This can provide higher success rates and fewer interruptions than standard browser sessions.

<Note>
  Browserbase offers Verified on the Scale plan. You can still build a proof of
  concept with standard browsers and [proxies](/platform/identity/proxies).
  Contact [hello@browserbase.com](mailto:hello@browserbase.com) to trial
  Verified or discuss an upgrade.
</Note>

**Key benefits:**

* Bot protection partners recognize sessions as legitimate
* Significantly fewer CAPTCHA challenges
* Reliable access to protected sites
* Real browser fingerprints - not randomly generated configurations

<Note>
  Verified sessions default to the `windows` operating system; non-Verified sessions always use `linux`. See [Verified customization](/platform/identity/verified-customization#operating-system-configuration) to select a different OS.

## Web Bot Auth

Web Bot Auth gives participating websites a cryptographic identity signal for your browser traffic. Websites verify the signature and apply their own access policies. A valid signature doesn't grant access or sign your agent into a user account.

Browserbase offers Web Bot Auth in beta. [Learn how it works and request access](/platform/identity/web-bot-auth).

## Best practices

Use these practices to keep browser-agent workflows stable, efficient, and responsible.

### Site compliance and ethical use

Before your agent accesses a website:

* Review the site's **terms of service** to ensure compliance.
* Check **robots.txt** for crawling guidelines when applicable.
* Cache responses **to reduce unnecessary requests** and improve efficiency.
